The Ascend of the Pines

The figures in the paintings derive mainly from archival photographic material standing
proudly in front of the viewer as a reminiscent of the archaic kouros and kore. Ιn the begin
ning, those statues stood still, then they attempted small steps and obtained objects symbolizing their status, until some day in the flow of history they claimed the surrounding space and conquered the free movement. Implementing a parallelism the painted figures walk through history, evolve steadily, until they have conquered the world of justice they dreamed of. The influence of tradition is obvious at every step, while new elements can also be seen. The frontal posture of the figures seeks to cast a clear and strong impression, to communicate with the spectator and to involve them in the artwork.
